Pinellas Deputies Accuse Teen of Sexually Abusing Baby

Deputies say the 14-year-old had inappropriate sexual contact with a 19 month old at a private residence in Pinellas County.

PINELLAS – Pinellas sheriff’s deputies arrested a teenage boy Saturday (Dec. 5) and accused him of sexual battery on a baby.

Arrested and charged with sexual battery on a child less than 12 years old was Shawn Abentroth, 14, who lives in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Deputies say they began investigating Saturday (Dec. 5) after a witness reported seeing the teenager having inappropriate sexual contact with the child, who is 19 months old. The baby’s name is being withheld under state privacy laws. Detectives say that the suspect was identified as Abentroth, who was arrested and charged after they interviewed him. Abentroth was taken to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center without further incident. The investigation is continuing.
