PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners named a new chair and vice chair for 2017 during an organizational meeting this week.

Commission members unanimously voted Janet C. Long and Kenneth T. Welch, respectively, to the positions during the Tuesday (Nov. 22) meeting. They will begin these roles in January.

Long, who served as vice chairman this year, will succeed Charlie Justice as chair.

“I’m truly honored and humbled to serve on this Board of County Commissioners,” Long said. “I look forward to finding more ways to make life better for the citizens of Pinellas County in 2017. These are exciting times.”

Justice, Long and Welch were also sworn in at an investiture ceremony Tuesday. All were reelected. Karen Seel, who was also reelected, could not attend the meeting in person.

Long, who represents District 1, was first elected to the commission in 2012. Justice represents District 3 and was first elected in 2012. Seel represents District 5 and has served on the board since 1999. Welch serves District 7 and was first elected in 2000.
