Pinellas Chief Deputy Tax Collector Files to Run for His Boss’ Seat

The Pinellas County tax collector job came open when Diane Nelson announced her retirement.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Charles Thomas has filed to run for Pinellas County tax collector in the November election.

“I will continue to offer excellent customer service, meeting our customer’s needs now and building for the future,” Thomas said.

Thomas has served as chief deputy tax collector since November 2000. He has been the driving force behind the organization’s efforts for continuous process improvement, which resulted in the office’s award of the prestigious Governor’s Sterling Award for performance excellence in 2013. He said he intends to continue to refine efficiencies while improving customer service if elected.

Before joining the tax collector’s office, Thomas was the program manager for Gordon-Darby, where he was responsible for the operation of 11 locations that generated $14 million in annual revenue. He was also responsible for maintaining the company’s $5 million annual budget and served as the organizations’ government relations’ liaison. Thomas said he understands the importance of efficiency while providing excellent customer service.

Thomas served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He worked in avionics maintenance of F15s. Thomas is married, has two children and one grandchild.
