Pinellas Board Looking for Volunteers For Count

Homeless Count | Homeless | Homeless Leadership Board

The volunteers would help with the annual count of the numbers of homeless people in Pinellas.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas County Homeless Leadership Board needs help from the community to conduct a one-day count and survey of homeless individuals and families in the local community.

An annual countywide survey of the homeless population is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for any area receiving federal funding for homeless programs. The survey helps identify gaps in services and helps countywide efforts toward ending homelessness. The data collected will help ensure funding is available to provide critical services.

Last year’s one-day count identified 3,387 homeless individuals who met the study criteria set out by HUD, though the county’s total homeless population is estimated to be almost twice that number.

The count is scheduled for Jan. 28.There will be a mandatory training session for all participants held on various dates in January.

To volunteer, go to pinellashomeless.org and look for the 2016 point in time count registration or call (727) 582-7922.
