The grants are for non-profit groups that benefit Pinellas animals.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Animal Services is funding reimbursement grants in the 2016-17 fiscal year for nonprofit agencies to provide services that benefit the animals of Pinellas County.

Agencies must use funds on preventive care, sterilization or trap neuter vaccinate return (TNVR) programs to be eligible for the grant. The application deadline is Aug. 31. The program is funded through the Animal Welfare Trust Fund.

Preventive Care: Animal Services is providing reimbursement to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations within Pinellas County that provide preventive veterinary care to pets of low-income residents in the county.

Sterilization: Animal Services is providing reimbursement to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations within Pinellas County that provide sterilization services to pets of low-income residents in the county.

TNVR: Animal Services is providing reimbursement to nonprofit 501(c)(3) Community Cat organizations within Pinellas County that operate a Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return (TNVR) program in accordance with the county ordinances.

Animal Services will allocate $16,600 for each of the three programs. The application period for the reimbursement grants opens Aug. 1 and closes on Aug. 31. The program begins Oct. 1, 2016 and runs through Aug. 31, 2017. The application information is at pinellascounty.org.

Through the Animal Welfare Trust Fund, residents are able to donate directly to the animals under Pinellas County Animal Services’ care. This fund was established to provide for the receipt of gifts, grants and awards of money from either public or private donors to be placed in a trust and appropriated for the exclusive use, welfare and benefit of domestic animals within Pinellas County. The Trust Fund makes it possible to care for a larger number of animals and provides special needs such as extra medications, specialty food, and items for cats and dogs that the shelter might not otherwise be able to provide.

Pinellas County Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Regular hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday – Friday, with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are administered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays. The facility is closed on all Pinellas County holidays.
