Passenger Dies in St. Petersburg Motorcycle Crash

ST. PETERSBURG – An Orlando woman died Sunday (Aug. 23) when she was thrown from a motorcycle after it crashed in St. Petersburg, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP officials said a North Port man was driving a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle south on I-275 north of 5th Avenue S in the inside lane about 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 23). The motorcycle left the road, traveled onto the southeast shoulder and struck the guardrail. It then went down the roadway embankment and collided with several trees. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The passenger died at the scene. The driver was taken to Bayfront Hospital with critical injuries. It is unclear why the motorcycle left the road. The name of both are being withheld until after relatives are notified. Both were wearing helmets.
