PASCO COUNTY – A Palm Harbor man died Friday (March 6) when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a stopped car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist, John W. Somogy, 56, of Palm Harbor, died at the scene.

Troopers said Mr. Somogy was traveling southbound on U.S. 19 N in the outside lane as he approached the intersection of Alt. U.S. 19 about 9:15 p.m. A 2013 Hyundai driven by Sandra K. Pulsipher, 60, of Clearwater was stopped for a red light in the outside lane of southbound U.S. 19. Mr. Somogy tried to avoid an accident by braking but troopers said he was unable to do so and collided with the rear of Pulsipher’s car. Mr. Somogy was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. It is unclear if the crash was alcohol related; test results are pending.
