The driver of one vehicle, from Palm Harbor, died at the scene.

PASCO COUNTY – A Palm Harbor man died Monday (Jan. 11) from injuries received when his car veered into a lane of oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The dead man’s name is being withheld pending notification of relatives. FHP officials say the 46-year-old man from Palm Harbor was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat east on State Road 52 east of Pasco Trails Boulevard about 11:06 a.m. when the collision happened. Troopers said that “for unknown reasons,” the Volkswagen veered into the oncoming lane in the direct path of a 2002 Mack truck being driven by William Earl Bailey, 52, of Port St. Lucie. The truck and the car collided head-on causing the Volkswagen to spin until it ended up on the south shoulder of the road facing northwest.  The truck, which was carrying roof trusses, jackknifed, went off the road and ended up in a canal. The Volkswagen’s driver died at the scene. Bailey was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital with minor injuries. It is unclear if alcohol was involved, the FHP says.
