John and Joyce Sanders, the founders of Jamson Laboratories Inc./Power Kleen Corp., gave each fifth grader at Oldsmar Elementary $150.

OLDSMAR – The act of kindness given to the fifth-graders at Oldsmar Elementary had one goal in mind: To teach them the importance and joy of giving.

Here is how John Sanders and his wife Joyce, the founders of Jamson Laboratories Inc./Power Kleen Corp. went about it:

The Sanders gave every Oldsmar Elementary fifth-grader two debit cards. The first card was $50 and the students could only spend it on themselves. They were given a second debit card worth $100. With that card, the students were encouraged to donate to a local charity and give back to the community. They could also buy something special for their family members. The total amount given to students by the Sanders was nearly $13,000.

The students gave to Oldsmar Cares. They gave to the Angel Tree, the Humane Society, the YMCA Giving Tree. Some students purchased gifts for their family.

“The lesson you wanted them to learn has been multiplied 100 times over this period of giving,” said Michael Feeney,  Oldsmar Elementary’s principal. “One family said that because of this giving, they were able to have a Christmas tree.”

The fifth-graders on Friday (Dec. 18) told the Sanders of the many ways they used the funds to brighten others’ holiday spirit. They showed a short video that demonstrated the many charities that were given to. They also presented a book with pictures and handwritten stories of how the funds were used.

“This has been an amazing experience and we didn’t expect this presentation,” John Sanders said. “We wanted students to understand the importance of giving. This has been amazing.”
