The other driver was charged with three counts of DUI manslaughter, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Three family members were killed Friday (July 1) when their pickup truck went into Tampa Bay after being struck by a car, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Robert Getter, 76, and Karen Getter, 73, died at the scene. Their son, Samuel Getter, 52, died at Tampa General Hospital. All were from Leesburg.

Joshua Eric Burbank, of 8218 Canary Canyon Way in Wesley Chapel, the driver of the other vehicle, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Troopers said he was arrested and charged with three counts of DUI manslaughter, one count of DUI property damage, and was cited for careless driving.

Troopers said the crash happened about 9:40 p.m. Burbank was driving a 2014 Honda Civic east on I-275. Troopers said Burbank lost control of his car and veered into the inside lane where he collided with the 2012 GMC Sierra the Getters were in. The Sierra began spinning and overturned several times, then flipped over the concrete barrier wall and fell into the water. Burbank was able to bring the Honda to a controlled stop, troopers said. He was arrested at the scene.
