Dirt Bike Rider Dies from Injuries Received in Lealman Traffic Collision

The man, from St. Petersburg, was not wearing a helmet.

LEALMAN – A St. Petersburg man died Friday (July 24) of injuries he received when his dirt bike collided with a car in the unincorporated Lealman area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead was Stephen Patrick Cleary, 57. FHP troopers said Mr. Cleary was riding his 2002 Kawasaki MC southbound from the north sidewalk across 54th Avenue N near Lown Street about 9:50 a.m. Friday (July 24). Troopers said Mr. Cleary failed to yield right of way to a 1997 Lexus ES300 driven by The Tran, 66, of Kenneth City. The dirt bike collided with the passenger side of the Lexus. Mr. Cleary, who was not wearing a helmet, received serious injuries and was taken to Bayfront Hospital where he later died, the FHP said. No charges are pending.
