The deputy and a passenger in another vehicle received minor injuries.

LARGO – A Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy and a passenger in another vehicle received minor injuries Wednesday (Feb. 17) in a five-car crash on Ulmerton Road in Largo.

The name of the deputy, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Titan, was being withheld because he works as an undercover detective. He was taken to Bardmoor Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The other injured person was Fred McIntosh, 89, of Largo, who was a passenger in one vehicle. McIntosh was taken to Largo Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Cited for careless driving was John Flynn, 64, of Riverview, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Tundra.

Sheriff’s deputies said the crash happened about 3:49 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 17) at 8080 Ulmerton Road. They said Flynn was traveling east on Ulmerton Road when he changed lanes from the curb lane to the median lane and struck the deputy’s unmarked Nissan. The impact pushed the detective’s vehicle into a 2003 Chevy Malibu being driven by 69-year old Francis Swindle of Holiday, who was pushed into a 2005 PT Cruiser being driven by 77-year-old Carol Ehrenkranz of St. Petersburg. Ehrenkranz was pushed into a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by 54-year-old Bang Tam Tran of Clearwater. McIntosh was a passenger in the Malibu.
