Largo Meeting to Discuss Trotter Road Project
Largo’s strategic plan includes improving roadways to make them more welcoming to recreational users.
LARGO – The Largo City Commission will hit the road for a community work session and open house to discuss the Trotter Road construction project and hear feedback from the community about the project.
Trotter Road is an important segment of Largo’s Community Street Network. The portion of Trotter Road scheduled for construction extends from 8th Avenue S to Hillsdale Avenue.
The city of Largo strategic plan identifies the need to establish a system of community streets and expand trails and greenways to connect neighborhoods, parks, and civic attractions. Community streets are to be designed to accommodate pedestrian, cyclist, other recreational users, and automobile traffic. The existing roadway on Trotter Road lacks bicycle facilities, has a narrow rural section with inadequate shoulder, and substandard sidewalk and crosswalk facilities.
This project will improve bicycle and pedestrian traffic and safety, through a modification of continuous bike lanes and sidewalks, streetscaping and hardscape elements, landscape, curbing, stormwater retrofits to remove pollutants from stormwater runoff, and intersection improvements. The project will also include improvements to the roadway drainage and underground sewer utility infrastructure due to age and condition, as well as, to accommodate the transportation improvements and traffic calming features.
The work session will be preceded by an open house from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 23) to provide information about the project. The work session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Both will be held in the St. Patrick’s Church meeting hall, 2121 16th Ave. SW. Public comments will be accepted at the conclusion of the Community Work Session. For information, please contact the project manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (727) 587-6713, ext. 4421.
