Registration is open for the regional qualifier, which is scheduled for Aug. 27.

LARGO – The American FootGolf League U.S. National Championship will hold a Florida qualifier at the city of Largo’s golf course.

The event, scheduled for 3 p.m. Aug. 27, is a regional qualifier for the Florida regional championship. This is one of 16 regional championships planned. The AFGL U.S. National Championship, will be held in November at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, CA.

“The AFGL has worked for the last four years to create a network of nearly 500 courses in the United States that have FootGolf courses,” U.S. National Championship director Julia Barajas said. “The national championship is the next logical step in the growth of the sport and its integration into the competitive sports landscape.”

FootGolf, which is played on a traditional golf course, involves the kicking of a soccer ball down the fairway. The goal is to reach the hole in as few “strokes” (kicks) as possible. In FootGolf, the hole is increased to 21 inches in diameterto accommodate a regulation soccer ball.

FootGolf is suitable for players of various ages and genders, and tournaments feature four different player classifications for the U.S. National Championship: juniors ages 12-17, men ages 18-45, Sseniors older than 45, and women ages 18 and older.
