Expect Traffic Jams in Largo

Road Projects | Road Paving | FDOT

The closure of portions of East Bay Drive (State Road 686) will be caused by resurfacing and the replacement of storm pipes. Construction is expected to begin Monday (June 8) and last about four months.

LARGO – Beginning Monday (June 8), the Florida Department of Transportation will start construction on SR 686/East Bay Drive. The eastbound lanes of East Bay Drive will close from SR 595/Seminole Boulevard to Central Park Drive, and will be announced in advance by the FDOT. The resurfacing project includes roadway and infrastructure improvements and a FDOT traffic control plan for the closing of the eastbound — and later westbound — lanes of East Bay Drive between Seminole Boulevard and Central Park Drive.

As storm pipes are replaced under the currently closed eastbound lanes of East Bay Drive, the westbound lanes of East Bay Drive will be converted to both east and westbound traffic. FDOT will reverse the traffic plan when the westbound lane of East Bay Drive closes for pipe construction. Lane closures will also occur during the resurfacing phase of the project.

The 125-day project includes:

  • Major milling and resurfacing of SR 686
  • Minor widening of the left turn lane at the 4th Street NE intersection
  • Open cut pipe installations
  • Structural slip lining of stormwater pipes
  • Manhole and storm inlet installations
  • Various sidewalk repairs, signalization and ADA ramp construction.

Lane closures all along East Bay Drive will occur during the resurfacing phase of the project. The public is advised to use caution at all times. Alternate east/west routes include Ulmerton Road and Belleair Road. For information, see largo.com.
