The money will be used for a display about water and environmental quality.

LARGO – The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded a first time $30,000 grant to the Friends of the Largo Nature Parks.

The funds will be used to make improvements to the Narrows Environmental Educational Center at the George C. McGough Park, 11901 146th N St.  The grant funds will be allocated for a proposed interpretive display called, “Your Water, Your Life” that will enable visitors to interactively learn how everyday decisions can affect water and environmental quality. The display will also educate visitors on how they can help clean and improve the quality of water and the environment.

Parks Superintendent Greg Brown said he is, “excited that the Duke Energy Foundation has invested in the Narrows Environmental Education Center and the important work of the Friends of the Largo Nature Parks.”

The Duke Energy Foundation supports local programs that help protect and restore wildlife and natural resources, with a special focus on water and air, as well as environmental education programs and those that support research in emerging energy technologies.

“Duke Energy is dedicated to being good stewards of the environment,” said Alex Glenn, Duke Energy state president – Florida. “We’re proud to support Friends of the Largo Nature Parks, Inc. and the city of Largo, organizations that are also committed to making an impact and are working to protect and maintain Florida’s natural resources.”

Friends of the Largo Nature Parks and the city were awarded the grant at the Jan. 5 commission meeting. Friends of the Largo Nature Parks is a nonprofit organization, benefiting the city’s Recreation, Parks and Arts department.
