A teenage pedestrian died of injuries he received in the Kenneth City crash.

KENNETH CITY – Pinellas sheriff’s deputies have accused a man of leaving the scene of a traffic crash that killed a teenage pedestrian Sunday (May 29) morning in Kenneth City.

Sean Patrick McCasland, 19, of Kenneth City, died at a local hospital of injuries he received in the crash.

Tyler M. Johnson, 20, of 7965 71st Way N,  No. 144, Kenneth City, was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Deputies said the crash happened around 10:50 a.m. The situation began when Mr. McCasland had an argument with the driver of a red Ford F250 pick-up truck in front of his home. At one point during the dispute, Mr. McCasland jumped onto the truck and the driver of the truck tried driving away, deputies said.

Witnesses told investigators that McCasland was seen hanging off the driver side door of the truck as the truck drove northbound on 61st Way N and then made a left westbound turn onto 49th Avenue N. Witnesses said that McCasland fell off the truck onto the roadway near 61st Lane N and the truck stopped. Deputies said the driver of the truck then proceeded to drive off, running over the victim with the left rear tires of the truck. The truck continued westbound on 49th Avenue N and left the scene.

McCasland was transported to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies said they were able to identify Johnson as the owner and driver of the Ford truck. Deputies arrested Johnson about 8:20 p.m. Sunday (May 29).
