In Gulfport, this Weekend Is for Heroes

Beach Volleyball | Tournament | Sports

Gulfport’s Veterans Day parade and VETSports beach volleyball tournament is scheduled for Sunday (Nov. 6).

GULFPORT – Whether you served in the military or serve on the volleyball court, VETSports Heroes Weekend is for you.

The event is a great way for the community to participate in Veteran’s Day while giving back to local veterans. In addition to a parade and the VETsports volleyball tournament, the city has planned a ribbon cutting for the Gulfport Beach parking renovation and also military themed music by the New Horizons Band of Gulfport.

Grab a seat for the Veteran’s Parade at 11 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 6) on Beach Boulevard S.  The parade route will start on Beach and head south towards the Casino Ballroom, then drop off to the ceremonial ribbon cutting at about 11:30 a.m.

At noon, after the paraded, opening ceremonies will begin for the Fifth Annual VETSports Beach Volleyball Gulfport Open. Smoking J’s BBQ, drinks and items for purchase will be available courtside. Proceeds raised benefit VETSports Inc., a 501 (c) 3, tax exempt, non-profit veteran’s organization, and scholarship fund in honor of Major David G. Taylor and the Pete Huffman Scholarship Fund.

For those who may enjoy indoor musical activity, the New Horizon Band of Gulfport will celebrate our heroes with live patriotic themed music at 1 p.m. inside the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. The concert is free. A full cash bar will be available.

Heroes Weekend in Gulfport is sponsored by the city, VETSports and American Legion Post 125.
