Field of Applicants for Largo City Manager Down to Eight

Largo | Largo City Hall | City Hall

Among the eight are the city’s two assistant city managers and the former Dunedin city manager.

LARGO – A consultant has narrowed the field to eight semi-finalists for the Largo city manager’s job.

Among the eight are three faces familiar in Pinellas municipal government – Henry Schubert, Michael Staffopoulos and Rob DiSpirito.

Schubert and Staffopoulos are assistant city managers in Largo.

DiSpirito resigned in January from his job as Dunedin city manager, a position he had held for nine years. His resignation came two weeks after the Dunedin Commission failed in a surprise vote to fire him. The commission’s move to fire DiSpirito came after a positive evaluation and salary increase a year ago and was criticized by many Dunedin residents.

The other five semifinalists for the job: Russ Blackburn, former Gainesville city manager; Garrison Brumback, town manager of Southington, Conn.; Randall Dowling, former county manager for Barrow County, Geo.; Kenneth Griffin, county administrator for King William County, Va.; and Christian Sigman, county administrator for Hamilton County, Ohio.

The eight were chosen from a field of 136 applicants. Plans are for Largo commissioners to conduct telephone interviews on Feb. 12 with a meet and greet reception scheduled for Feb. 23 and final interviews on Feb. 24.

The Largo job came available in October when the current city manager, Mac Craig, announced he would retire in March.
