Erosion has made the trail unsafe, officials say.

TARPON SPRINGS – Elfer’s Spur trail in Tarpon Springs has closed. The spur, which connects the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail to the North Anclote Nature Park by crossing the Anclote River, opened in 2004. Erosion issues over time have impacted users’ ability to safely travel along the spur. Pinellas County and Tarpon Springs officials are working to identify a solution for long-term repair. Elfer’s Spur is maintained by Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources and is located on city of Tarpon Springs land. Gates and signs are up in the area to alert trail users to the closure, which will last for an indefinite period.
