Runners battled grass, dirt and sand over 5-mile and 5K courses.

DUNEDIN — Several hundred runners participated in the 7th Annual Kiwanis Adventure Run in Dunedin on Sunday.

The event, which featured 5-mile and 5K races, was held on Honeymoon Island and the courses traversed varied terrain including grass, dirt and sand.

The 5-mile event was won by 21-year-old Chad Zagacki, of St. Peterasburg, while Laure Blume, 50, of Pinellas Park, finished sixth overall and was the top female.

In the 5K race, 11-year-old Patric Murphy of Oldsmar took top honors in a time of 20:24 and Sarah Kleeman of Gainesvlle was the women’s champion.

Runners were treated to hot chocolate and an egg-and-pancake breakfast. The event was co-hosted by Dunedin Kiwanis Foundation and the Friends of the Islands Park, a volunteer organization whose main objective is to help support the goals of Honeymoon Island State Park and Caladesi Island State Park.

The Dunedin Kiwanis Club will also co-host the popular Kiwanis-Virginia Street Dermatology Midnight Run on July 3 and July 4. Registration for that event is open. Google Kiwanis Midnight Run 2016.
