PINELLAS COUNTY – In an effort to reduce DUI-related injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol, Pinellas sheriff and five police departments will run a wolf pack operation throughout Pinellas County.

The operation will begin tonight (Dec. 19) and continue into early Sunday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff. The hours of the wolf pack patrol were unclear.

This operation is part of the Pinellas County sheriff’s ongoing commitment to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving.  The goal of the wolf pack is to educate citizens and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.

Participating with the sheriff and FHP troopers will be officers from the Clearwater, Gulfport, Largo, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs police departments. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Remove Intoxicated Drivers USA Inc. (RID), and the Suncoast Safety Council will be providing food to law enforcement during the operation.
