The blaze from the crash closed Bryan Dairy Road for hours.

PINELLAS PARK – At least one person died early this morning (Feb. 29) after the vehicle he was driving struck an overpass and burst into flames.

Pinellas Park police said  it appears a single vehicle was traveling possibly north bound about 3:17 a.m. on the U.S. 19 N frontage road at a high rate of speed and stuck one of the support pillars under the overpass at Bryan Dairy Road (118th Avenue). When it hit, the vehicle caught fire. Police said at least one person had died, but it was unknown if anyone else was in the vehicle.

The Pinellas Park Fire Department has asked the Florida Department of Transportation for an inspector to determine if the overpass was damaged.

Pinellas Park police had homicide investigators on the scene and said no further information would be released until the investigation was complete. Bryan Dairy and the north and south bound frontage roads at U.S. 19  were shut down for several hours while the investigation continued.
