Traffic Signal Boxes, Art and a Bike Ride in Clearwater

Signal Box Bike Ride | Things to Do Near Me | Clearwater

Celebrate the latest public art project in Clearwater – traffic signal boxes wrapped in creative art work – with a bike tour.

CLEARWATER – This is your chance to support the arts and take a leisurely bicycle ride (suitable for all ages and skill levels).

The Downtown Clearwater Signal Box Bike Ride Tour gives you a chance to see the recently installed art wrapped signal boxes in the downtown area and return to a party to meet the artists, enjoy music, food, beer, prizes and more. Don’t want to bike? Come to the after party.

A $5 event registration fee gets you into the bike ride, a bottled water, the after party at Tony’s Pizza, one domestic beer, a ticket for chance to win a free bike, a souvenir bracelet, discount coupons for downtown cafes and stores and a souvenir visor to the first 100 registrants. The party will feature live jazz piano music, a meet-and-greet with local artists, and the drawing for the beach crusier bike provided courtesy of the Path Bicycle & Ride Shop. Bike racks will be provided behind Tony’s, 428 Cleveland St., so that all riders can enjoy the after party.

The signal box art project is the brainchild of the Clearwater Arts Alliance, a nonprofit that supports art and culture in Clearwater, including public art. To promote its goals, the CAA commissioned artists Tim Boatright, Ya La’Ford and Ray Paul for the first phase of a project titled “Thinking Outside the Box.”  This project takes drab traffic signal boxes and wraps them with colorful artistic images. In upcoming phases, CAA will expand this project into more Clearwater neighborhoods.

The bike ride is Wednesday (Oct. 19). Parking and check-in at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola St. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. The ride starts at 6 p.m. The after party begins about 6:45 p.m.
