Sheriff’s Investigator Hurt in Clearwater Car Crash

The child protection deputy sustained non-life threatening injuries.

CLEARWATER – Pinellas County deputies are investigating a crash involving sheriff’s child protection investigator.

According to investigators, child protection investigator, Chelsea Flint was driving her sheriff’s-issued 2010 Ford Fusion eastbound on Gulf to Bay Boulevard about 5:56 p.m. Friday (Aug. 7). At the same time, Stella McEwen, 23, of Clearwater, was driving her 2012 Kia Soul westbound on Gulf to Bay toward a flashing yellow light at Belcher Road. Deputies say McEwen made a left turn in the path of Flint, who was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the passenger side of the Kia.

Flint was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. McEwen was not injured.

McEwen was issued a citation for turning left in front of oncoming traffic. Neither alcohol nor drug impairment appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
