The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will continue to process and renew the concealed weapon licenses. The new service is designed as a convenient, one-stop shop for Pinellas residents.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas residents will be able to fast-track the renewal of their Florida concealed weapon license at the Pinellas County Tax Collector’s main office, 315 Court St. in downtown Clearwater, beginning Tuesday (Aug. 18).

The concealed weapon license application intake service is designed to allow applicants to complete the entire application process quickly and conveniently. The service is also intended to streamline the application screening and review process, thereby reducing the time it takes the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to issue a license. Because applications  will be pre-screened for completion before being forwarded to Tallahassee, there is less likelihood that the applications will include errors or omissions that will result in processing delays.

The concealed weapons licenses can be fast-tracked by submitting the renewal in person at the tax collector’s office in downtown Clearwater. There will be a $12 convenience fee in addition to the FDACS renewal fee. The convenience fee includes a new ID photo, notary services, and electronic processing of renewal applications. The FDACS will still process and issue renewed concealed weapon licenses. This service simply provides a convenient, one-stop shop for residents.

Because of the large number of renewals slated to come due in the next few years, select tax collector offices that already process new concealed weapon license applications are being given the authority to accept and process concealed weapon license renewals packages and securely submit them to FDACS for final approval and permit issuance. There are more than 1.3 million concealed weapon permits in Florida. More than 177,000 new licenses were processed last fiscal year.
