CLEARWATER – This city’s Community Redevelopment Agency is seeking artists to design an artistic banner that will be displayed along a chain-link fence on city property.

The city of Clearwater recently adopted a new brand to highlight its natural beauty and location. The city’s tagline is: Bright and Beautiful * Bay to Beach. The desired artwork and theme should exemplify how the city and the downtown Clearwater gateway are bright and beautiful.

One artist will be selected and his or her graphic design will be printed on a mesh banner to beautify a chain-link fence located at 1274 Cleveland St. Specifically, the banner will be installed on the 387 linear feet of fencing fronting Cleveland Street between North Lincoln Avenue and North Betty Lane. The location is the site of a former Economy Inn. Clearwater’s CRA bought the property in 2011 and demolished the structure with the idea of redeveloping it in the future. Today, it’s an approximately 2.5 acre vacant lot that sits adjacent to a thriving community garden.

Proposals from artists living and/or working in the Tampa Bay area are highly desired. Artists are strongly encouraged to visit the site. An honorarium of $500 will be provided as compensation for the selected artist’s design services. The winning artist will be recognized by the CRA in its monthly newsletter and potentially in other media outlets.

The deadline to submit proposals is Oct. 7. Completed applications must include the artist’s name and brief biography and the artist’s mailing address. The design must be 4,644 inches by 60 inches, 300 dpi minimum. Acceptable formats may include: eps, tiff, jpg, pdf.
