Clearwater Motorcyclist Dies After Head-On Collision

The other driver, who was driving the wrong way, was charged with DUI manslaughter, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

DUNEDIN – A motorcyclist has died and another man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after a head-on crash Saturday (Jan. 30) night.

John Sorenson, 38, of Clearwater, was flown by Bayflite to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, according to the Pinellas County sheriff. Mr. Sorenson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Deputies arrested Kenneth Cabral, 40, of 1760 Douglas Ave. in Clearwater, and charged him with one count of DUI manslaughter. He suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The collision happened about 9:23 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) in the area of  County Road 1 and Burnham Lane in Dunedin, deputies said. They said Cabral, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of County Road 1 when he hit Mr. Sorenson head-on. Deputies said that, throughout the investigation, Cabral showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of DUI manslaughter.
