The Pinellas County Commission has rescheduled this morning’s meeting until 1:30 p.m. because of the weather.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County Emergency Management recommends that residents remain prepared for additional severe weather today (June 7).

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the county this morning. A persistent band of rainfall is possible the rest of the morning, capable of producing another 1 inch to 4 inches of rain. Parts of Pinellas County have received between 5 inches and and 9 and a half inches of rain since Sunday (June 5) morning.Road flooding is widespread and may continue with the rain and afternoon high tide. The rain should gradually move south today, but timing is uncertain.Advisories have also been issued for high surf, rip currents and coastal flooding.

The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners meeting originally scheduled for today at 9:30 a.m. has been rescheduled to 1:30 p.m. because of weather conditions. All public hearings will also be rescheduled to 1:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as they may be heard based on the weather situation and advisories from the National Weather Service. The meeting will be held in its usual location in the BCC Assembly Room, 315 Court St., Clearwater.

Residents are reminded of the following tips during today’s severe weather:

• Limit road travel. Road conditions and visibility may be poor due to severe weather.
• Do not attempt to drive down flooded roadways.
• Avoid coming into contact with or walking through flood water.
• Monitor weather radios frequently as weather conditions may change frequently.
• Monitor the county’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates all day long. These are strictly dedicated to weather and emergency management updates today.
• Identify the safest room in the location you’re in and make sure it is clear of obstructions.
• Those in traditionally flood-prone areas should locate a higher ground location to move vehicles to if roadways become flooded.

Pinellas County is checking drainage structures and responding to road closures caused by flooding, as well as coordinating with local jurisdictions, and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
