Zephyrhills Man Dies after Dade City Crash

He was a passenger in one of the cars, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Zephyrhills man died Saturday (Aug. 20) from injuries received in a two-car crash in Dade City, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Leonard Pasco, 48, of Zephyrhills, died at Lakeland Regional Hospital. He was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash. The driver, James Diggins, 54, of Lutz, was also injured. He was also taken to Lakeland Regional where he was listed in serious condition. It is unclear if either man had been drinking. Test results are pending, troopers said. It is also unclear if either man was wearing a seat belt.

The driver and four passengers in the other vehicle received minor injuries. The driver, John Bryant, 52, and one passenger, Martha Johnson, 39, both of Dade City, were taken to Bayfront Health Dade City. The other passengers, Carrie Spencer, 23; Aubrey Spencer, 2, both of Dade City; and Meriyah Avant, 1, of Webster, were not taken to hospitals.

The crash happened about 7:40 p.m. on U.S. 301 south of Jordan Road in Dade City, troopers said. Other details were not available. The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected, according to the FHP.
