The crash happened when one car failed to stop, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A car that failed to stop caused a five-car pileup that killed one woman and sent two other drivers to the hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Stephanie Lance Nicholas, 38, of Wesley Chapel, died at a local hospital of her injuries, the FHP said. Jason Pleaz Edwards, 34, also of Wesley Chapel, was taken to Florida Hospital with serious injuries. Heather M. Stillman, 31, of Lutz, was taken to Florida Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 5:17 p.m. Wednesday (June 8) on I-75 south of State Road 54. Edwards was driving his 2004 Ford SUV north on I-75. Traffic was stopped ahead of him, but he failed to stop and caused a chain reaction, troopers said. The Ford hit the 2016 Mercedes that Ms. Nicholas was driving. The Mercedes, in turn, hit a 2007 Mazda 3 driven by Stillman. The Mazda hit a 2014 Honda CRV driven by Rhonda White Dumas, 60, of Wesley Chapel. The Honda hit a 2006 Nissan Titan driven by Jose G. Campoverde, 58, of Wesley Chapel.

After the crash, troopers said, the SUV overturned. Other cars spun.

Ms. Nicholas, Edwards and Stillman were all taken to Florida Hospital. The other two drivers were uninjured. The accident was not alcohol related, the FHP said.
