Pasco School Bus Driver Accused of Careless Driving

No children were injured in the traffic accident this morning (Aug. 31).

NEW PORT RICHEY – A Pasco school bus driver was accused of causing a traffic accident this morning (Aug. 31), according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Teresa Ann Cooney, 53, of New Port Richey, was issued a ticket accusing her of careless driving, Neither she nor any school children were hurt. The occupants of the other vehicle reported minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital, according to the FHP.

The FHP says the accident happened about 7:20 a.m. when the Cooney was driving a 2001 school bus with 33 River Ridge middle and high school students aboard southbound on Moon Lake Road north of Ridge Road. The bus was behind a 2006 Mazda 3 driven by Karen E. Coffin, 58, of New Port Richey. The bus failed to stop for the Mazda, which was stopped, and hit the car, the FHP said.
