Pasco County’s emergency operations center is open, will be up to full strength Monday (June 6).

PASCO COUNTY – The Pasco County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be fully activated at 6 a.m. Monday (June 6) ahead of a low pressure system moving into the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for parts of Florida’s West Coast, including Pasco County, as the area of low pressure moves quickly across the eastern Gulf. Pasco County residents will begin to feel the impact from this storm as early as Sunday evening, with the full force of the storm arriving around 7 a.m. Monday.

The biggest threat from this storm will be heavy rain, which could cause flooding in some low-lying areas and in streets prone to flooding.

“We are going to flood in parts of Pasco County,” emergency services director Kevin Guthrie said. “Our message today to residents is to be prepared.”

Sandbags are available at 8 locations – Pasco County handed out 7,500 sandbags Saturday. For a full list of sandbagging locations, go to pasccountyfl.net.

Currently, no shelters are open in Pasco County; however, emergency management staff is monitoring the situation closely and are ready should the need arise.
