Two children in the car were seriously injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A woman died and two children were injured Monday (July 18) from a head-on  collision, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Tiffanie Michelle Hughes, 33, of Winter Haven, died at Florida Hospital in Wesley Chapel from injuries sustained in the crash, the FHP said. Two boys, ages 10 and 11, who were in the car with her were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened about 3:27 p.m. on State Road 54 west of Loury Drive. Ms. Hughes was driving a 2016 Toyota 4Runner east on SR 54 when she veered into the oncoming lane, troopers said. She hit a 209 Mazda CX-9 driven by Koosh Raahul Patel, 17, of Wesley Chapel, head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to spin. Neither Patel nor a passenger in his Mazda were taken to the hospital. It is unclear, troopers said, why Ms. Hughes drove into the oncoming lane.
