The exhibit of art made by high school students will be open through April 1.

PASCO COUNTY – The Art of Recycling Contest is back for its 20th year.

High School students have been diligently creating art from trash since the beginning of the semester. Pasco County public and private high schools have submitted the best seven creations from each school to be judged in 15 categories. Each category carries a $100 cash prize. First, second and third place overall will receive $500, $300 and $200 respectively. The art is judged on several themes like Best Use of Aluminum, Best Use of Plastic, Most Innovative, Best Environmental Concept and much more. Public school participating seniors are eligible to compete for a $1,000 college scholarship.

The exhibition opened Feb. 1 and will remain on display until Feb. 26 at the West Pasco Government Center, 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey. The 15 winning pieces will then be on display at the Pasco County District School Board from Feb. 29 through April 1.

Winners will be presented their awards at their schools during the week of Feb. 15.

This event is a co-operative project of the District School Board of Pasco County, Pasco County Recycling and Education, Keep Pasco Beautiful and the Pasco Arts Council.
