The motorcyclist lost control of his bike and collided with the semi tractor-trailer.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Wimauma man died Wednesday (March 16) when he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and collided with a tractor-trailer.

Jose Mario Cruz, 34, of Wimauma, died at the scene of his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP troopers said Mr. Cruz was driving a 2006 Kwasaki ZX600 southbound on U.S. 301 near Park Creek Boulevard about 1 p.m. at a high rate of speed, passing other vehicles. Kevin Donell Crumdy, 46, of Tampa was driving a 2014 semi tractor-trailer northbound on U.S. 301. He was towing a 54-foot-long flatbed trailer. Crumdy was making a U-turn across the southbound lanes of U.S. 301, troopers said. Mr. Cruz tried to avoid a crash and lost control of his motorcycle, which overturned and collided with the truck’s trailer.  It is unclear if Mr. Cruz had been drinking. Troopers said no charges are pending.
