They turned into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A motor scooter rider and her passenger died from injuries they received in a crash Saturday (Jan. 12) on Florida Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Valentina Llanos, 17, of Coral Springs, died at the scene. Her passenger, Natalia Luna, 19, of Tampa, died at Tampa General Hospital where she was taken after the crash. No one else was injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Garland Court in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Ms. Llanos was driving a 2019 Taoi motor scooter west on Garland. She turned left on Florida Avenue and entered the path of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup. Both scooter riders were thrown off the motor bike by the force of the impact.
