Meeting Set to See Recommendations for Clearwater Waterfront Improvements
The goal of the improvements is to help make Clearwater the boating capital of Florida’s west coast.
CLEWATER – Recommendations for the city of Clearwater’s comprehensive boating plan will be presented to the community at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 16) at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave.
The Tamapa engineering and consulting firm of Moffatt & Nichol will present recommendations to enhance the downtown marina, Seminole boat launch and the Clearwater Beach marina. The goal is to benefit the public and nearby businesses while making Clearwater the boating capital on Florida’s west coast.
A discussion with a question and answer session will follow the presentation. Public comment that was gathered at November’s Clearwater comprehensive boating plan community meeting was used by Moffatt & Nichol to reach these recommendations.
“Broad-based public participation is essential to construct a plan to best activate our waterfront and its connections with our downtown, adjacent neighborhoods and nearby amenities,” said Bill Morris, the city’s marine and aviation director and harbormaster. “The importance of public interaction helps focus our plans for future enhancements to the waterfront to maximize activity and increase its utilization.”
The Urban Land Institute, a Washington, D.C. education and research nonprofit that concentrates on land use, urban planning and growth, visited downtown Clearwater last year and recommended that the city complete a comprehensive boating plan. The Urban Land Institute brought experts who spent five days in downtown Clearwater, meeting with nearly 100 stakeholders and producing dozens of suggestions to help implement a plan to redevelop Clearwater’s downtown.
