Hooters Races Draw More Than 500 Runners

Food, beverages and a raffle provided extra treats.

CLEARWATER — This past Sunday (Sept. 13th), the Hooters to Hooters 10K/5K race was held in Clearwater with more than 500 runners participating. Beginning and ending at Hooters of Clearwater on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, the race took place on local roads and a large section of the Ream Wilson Trail. Runners were treated to complimentary boneless chicken wings, tater tots and all-you-could-drink Michelob Ultra beer at the finish line, courtesy of Hooters. American Running Company, which put on the race as part of their ARC Series, also raffled a variety of prizes, including a pair of Newton running shoes.

The 10K race was won by 29-year-old Michael McDonald of Tampa in a time of 34:31, while 32-year-old Maria Lopez Vijayanagar, also of Tampa, finished as the Top Female. Jeff Hurd of Largo, who finished second overall, and Kara Hourdas of Tarpon Springs were the male and female masters winners. In the 5K race, Dan Bergeson of Oldsmar and Jacki Wachtel of New Port Richey were the overall winners, while Brent Carmack of St. Petersburg and Laurie Wisotsky of Largo were the top Masters finishers.

The ARC Series, which consists of four races (the Sea Dog Brewery 5K, the Hooters to Hooters 10K, the Pretty in Pink 15K and the Shipyard Brewery Half-Marathon) will continue on Sunday, Oct. 11, with the Pretty in Pink 15K at Del Oro Park in Clearwater.
