HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A motorcyclist died late Saturday (April 30) when he hit a car while trying to avoid an accident.

Kenneth Gordils, 19, of Tampa died at the scene of the accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP troopers said the crash happened about 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 580 and Reflections Club Drive in Hillsborough County. A 2015 BMW 528S driven by Chanda Venkatesh, 27, of Tampa, was headed north on Reflections Club Drive approaching SR 580 (Hillsborough Avenue). Mr. Gordils was riding a 2004 Yamaha east on 580 approaching Reflections Club Drive.

Venkatesh failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle and tried to turn left onto 580, troopers said. Mr. Gordils braked and took evasive action to avoid a collision, but hit the left rear of the BMW, the FHP said. Mr. Gordils, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. There were no other injuries.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
