The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who fled the scene.

TAMPA – A Tampa police officer received minor injuries Thursday (July 23) evening when he lost control of his car to avoid hitting another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Tampa police Officer Jason DeGarmo, 29, was driving his marked patrol car north in the center lane of I-75 just south of Big Bend Road about 6:15 p.m. Thursday (July 23) when a car pulled into the lane in front of him, FHP troopers say. DeGarmo steered to the outside lane to avoid hitting the car and lost control of his patrol car, which left the road and hit a line of trees. The two cars did not collide.  DeGarmo received minor injuries.

The driver of the other car did not stop. The FHP is searching for the driver of the other car, which is described as a gold, four-door sedan, possibly a Crown Victoria or a Grand Marquis. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call *FHP (*347) or (813) 631-4020.
