Pedestrian Dies after Being Hit by Car in Hillsborough

The accident happened on U.S. 301 north of Stacy Road.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died early this morning (July 9) when he was struck by a car while walking on the shoulder of a road in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead at the scene was Darryl Thomas Robinson, 34, of Tampa. The FHP said he was walking north on U.S. 301 in the southbound lane about 2:10 a.m. when he was hit by a 2011 Nissan Titan driven by David Tidd, 25, of Zephyrhills. Tidd had been driving northbound on U.S. 301 north of Stacy Road when he drove into the southbound lane to pass another vehicle and hit Mr. Robinson. FHP troopers said Tidd came to a stop on the east shoulder of the road, north of the collision. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Charges are pending.
