Pedestrian Dies in Hillsborough

The pedestrian, a Tampa man, walked into the path of an oncoming car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died early Saturday (Jan. 2) morning while trying to cross a highway.

Dead at the scene was James Dale Haislip, 39, of Tampa.

The crash happened about 12:24 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. A 2001 Dodge Ram driven by Thomas John Fava, 33, of Riverview, was traveling north on U.S. 41 south of Palm Avenue in the middle lane as Mr. Haislip tried to cross the highway. The truck struck Mr. Haislip, who was not in a crosswalk. Mr. Haislip died at the scene. Charges are pending, troopers said.
