The motorcyclist rear-ended other vehicles when he failed to stop, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A motorcyclist died Sunday (May 8) evening when he crashed into other vehicles that were stopped on I-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Rafael Barboza, 54, of Lithia, died at the scene, troopers said.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. at milepost 43. FHP officials said that Mr. Barboza was driving his 2006 Honda motorcycle north in the outside center lane. A 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Robert Cook, 48, of Lakeland; a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by Mary Naroz Fanos, 26, of Jacksonville; and a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Lakia Hill, 33, of Riverview, were all stopped in the inside and outside center lanes because of another crash. Troopers said Mr. Barboza failed to stop for the other stopped traffic and hit the rear of both the pickup and the Toyota. The impact pushed the Toyota into the rear of the Honda.

Mr. Barboza, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene. There were no other injuries and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, troopers said.
