The crash began when the motorcyclist lost control of his bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A motorcyclist died in an early morning crash on I-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

William Ferreras-Mercedes, 33, of Lutz, died at the scene, FHP troopers said.

Troopers said the crash happened about 1:13 this morning (June 8) on I-275 just north of Ashley Drive in Tampa. They said Mr. Ferreras-Mercedes was driving his 2013 Honda CBR-25 south on I-275 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the bike, which left the road and collided with the center median barrier wall. Mr. Ferreras-Mercedes was thrown off the Honda and hit a light pole in the median. He then landed in the right center lane where he was hit by “multiple vehicles which left the scene,” troopers said. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
