One victim was sitting on the fender of a trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

TAMPA -Two people were taken to Tampa General Hospital early this morning (June 17) after a traffic accident near the Crosstown Connector.

Taken to the hospital were Jasmine A. Davis, 27, of Tampa, and Jesse L. Christen, 59, of Parrish. There was no word available on their condition from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP troopers said Davis was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima east on I-4 in the inside lane approaching the entrance ramp to SR-618 Crosstown Connector about 1:40 this morning (June 17). A 2015 Ford pickup truck was parked on the inside shoulder of the entrance ramp to SR-618 Crosstown Connector in a sectioned off work zone. Christen was sitting on the driver side fender of a trailer hitched to the pickup.

Davis entered the construction zone and failed to merge with the cone taper set in place, troopers said. As a result, the left front of the Nissan struck the right side of the trailer that was hitched to the pickup. Christen was propelled from the trailer onto the inside median. The Nissan spun and struck the right rear of the pickup. The Nissan came to rest in the painted area separating the entrance ramp to SR-618 from eastbound I-4. The pickup came to rest on the inside paved shoulder. It is unclear if alcohol was involved, troopers say. For information about the FHP, see flhsmv.gov.
