The John B. Sargeant Park will be closed this week for construction.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Hillsborough County Conservation and Environmental Lands Management will close John B. Sargeant Park for repairs and construction beginning Monday (April 4).

The entrance will be repaved, widened, sealed, and re-striped, and the accessible parking area will be refurbished. The park maintenance entrance will be repaired and resealed as well.

There will be signs notifying the public of the closures. Work is scheduled to finish on Friday (April 8), depending on the weather. The park is scheduled to resume normal hours on Saturday (April 9).

John B. Sargeant, Sr. Memorial Park, 12856 U.S. 301 N in Thonotosassa, is best known for boating access to the Hillsborough River. Downriver, the Hillsborough River State Canoe Trail winds through a jungle of hardwood trees, lilies and birds. Upstream, the river widens to flow through the broad hardwood swamp known as the Seventeen Runs.

Formerly known as Flint Creek Park, it was renamed in 1989 in memory of John B. Sargeant, Sr., who served as a member of the Hillsborough River Basin Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Park activities and features include a small boat ramp, picnicking, boardwalk, and fishing.
