Eustis Man Dies After Driving Off Sunshine Skyway Pier

It is unclear why the man drove his car off the fishing pier.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A man  died Wednesday (Dec. 23) when he drove his car off the end of the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead at the scene was Richard K. McCrocklin,  52, of Eustis. FHP officials say Mr. McCrocklin was seen standing next to his parked his car on the south Skyway Fishing Pier in Hillsborough County about 2 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 23). He got into the car and drove north through the barrier wall and off the end of the south Skyway Fishing Pier and into Tampa Bay. Divers from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue found the submerged vehicle with Mr. McCrocklin still inside. FHP troopers say the incident did not appear to be alcohol related.
