HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A bicyclist was killed Monday (Aug. 22) night in a crash on Dale Mabry Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

James Aaron Hope, 21, of Tampa, died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. There were no other injuries.

The crash happened about 8:40 p.m. on Dale Mabry at Lambright Street. The bicyclist was traveling south on the raised median when, for an unknown reason, he pulled into the northbound lane into the path of a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Angel Valladares, 21, of Tampa. The Hyundai hit the bike ejecting the bicyclist who was thrown off the bike, troopers said.

The bike and bicyclist were then hit by a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Anthony Grampietro, 20, of Tampa, who had been driving in the lane next to and slightly behind the Hyundai. The Corolla stopped on top of the bicyclist, who died at the scene, troopers said.
