Crime Scene | Dead Body | Chalk Outline

The passenger in  one vehicle fled on foot after the crash.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The drivers of both vehicles involved in a late Friday (April 1) traffic crash have died, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Mary Jo McMeley-Blevins, 41, died at the scene. Donna Lee Gaige, 49, died at Tampa General Hospital of her injuries. Both women are from Wimauma. Matthew Martin, 15, a passenger in Ms. Gaige’s car, was taken to Tampa General with serious injuries, the FHP said.
Ms. McMeley-Blevins was driving a 2001 Ford Windstar west on State Road 674 east of Chert Rock Trail about 4:03 p.m. Friday. Ms Gaige was driving a 2003 Honda CRV east on SR 674. Ms. McMeley-Blevins lost control of her vehicle, FHP troopers said, and veered into the eastbound lane then went off the road while spinning. Ms. Gaige ran off the road trying to avoid an accident. The vehicles collided, causing the Windstar to flip.
Ms. McMeley-Blevins was killed in the impact. A male passenger in her vehicle, fled on foot. It appears he might have minor injuries, troopers said. Ms. Gaige and Martin were taken to Tampa General where Ms. Gaige later died.
It is unclear why Ms. McMeley-Blevins lost control of the Windstar, troopers said. Charges are pending.
